Mary-Kate Olsen Officially Files For Divorce From Olivier Sarkozy

Mary-Kate Olsen is officially OUT!

The former Full House icon has officially filed for divorce from Olivier Sarkozy, her husband of four and a half years. The filing comes days after she attempted an emergency filing in New York City earlier this month, but was turned down after courts determined her petition not to be a true emergency.

According to court docs obtained by several media outlets on the matter, the fashion designer and business mogul officially filed with the New York County Supreme Court on Monday — the very day New York City courts reopened after being closed for some time amid the coronavirus pandemic. This, days after the courts began accepting electronic filings from all five boroughs.

As you’ll recall, the 33-year-old former TV star requested an emergency order of divorce back on May 13, only to have it turned down by the courts. She reportedly first signed a petition to divorce the 50-year-old French banker and financier back on April 17 — the first sign there was this level of trouble within the marriage. Obviously, as we’ve reported since then, more news has come out suggesting quite the less-than-ideal relationship between the pair over the recent past.

The couple, who first tied the knot in November 2015, struggled to see eye-to-eye on several issues, in addition to the ongoing controversies between them. For one, they apparently weren’t on the same page about whether to have children together; Sarkozy has two grown children with his ex-wife, Charlotte Bernard, and he allegedly didn’t want to have any more babies in his life, while Olsen was interested in starting a family of her own.

The two also struggled to agree on their daily plans and habits, with Sarkozy preferring to spend big and be seen out and about in high society quite a bit. Olsen, who runs fashion brands among her business ventures, instead prefers to lay low and stay at home. When things came down to it, these two really didn’t see a whole lot of each other all the time, especially recently. And then, yeah, there was that whole alleged solo vacation controversy, which didn’t exactly help Sarkozy’s case in the eye of public opinion, at least.

Alas, now these two will go their separate ways, and judging by all the reports and insider info about the breakup, this one may be for the better. Good thing Mary-Kate has that iron-clad prenup working in her favor with this one, ya know?!
