Despite premiering on Disney’s streaming service, The Mandalorian retained the quality of a live-action, theatrical Star Wars film. One of the most impressive parts of The Mandalorian according to fans was the series’ visceral space fights. The Mandalorian featured tons of nail-bitingly intense space fights, so it’s fair for fans to be curious how they came about.

Ian Milham, a visual production supervisor for ILM Visual Effects, took to Twitter to showcase just how the space fight scenes in The Mandalorian were filmed. As expected, the answer is just as fun as it daunting!

In the gif attached to the tweet, you can see just how responsive the technology is as the screen is instantly filled with lasers as the buttons are pressed on the iPad. The Mandalorian featured some of the most exciting visual effects technology the industry has seen in years. A majority of the show was shot on a large soundstage which had a 360 degree screen that projected all the locations. In the gif seen above, the exact same technology from the sound stage is being used for the outer space scene.

Here is the official synopsis for The Mandalorian:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The Star Wars series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.

Dave Filoni directed the first episode of The Mandalorian and additional episodes of the Star Wars series were helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones director Deborah Chow.

The Mandalorian is now available exclusively on Disney Plus. The second season of the Star Wars series will hit the streaming service in October.
